What can be Done to Decrease the Amount of Homeless People by Gabriella Fama

As we are all aware, homelessness is a big issue in the United States. There are way too many Americans living on our streets. There are a lot of people who want to put an end to this, including myself. One thing we can do would be to encourage the homeless people to live in shelters. If we put more shelters in the cities and surrounding towns, maybe homeless people will draw towards them. A lot of homeless people are stubborn and they don’t feel that they need the help from shelters. While a homeless person is living in a shelter they could hopefully pull themselves back together and get back on the right track and look for a job and start a new life. Shelters may not help all homeless people but it would definitely make a dent in the homeless population in the United States.

Homeless people are afraid of society. They have no courage and they rather be left alone. One way we can help would be to actually have conversations with them. At my school we have this program called Midnight Run where we organize a trip to visit homeless people and deliver toiletries, food, and clothing to them. It is a nice experience because some homeless people actually talk to you about various things. If everyone helped the homeless and actually cared about them a little more than we do we might be able to reduce the amount of homeless people on the streets.im not saying that you have to become friends with them but small simple acts could make a homeless person happier. A simple smile or kind gesture is all I ask for. We are all brothers and sisters in this world. We need to carry out God’s message and stand together as a family.

  1. Putting more shelters in at least every other city is a great way to minimize the amount of homeless people on the streets. Sometimes it takes someone else to make the first step in helping out the homeless in order for the homeless to make a change in their life. If the homeless see that there are people out there in the world that actually take the time out to help the homeless, they may see that they have a purpose in the life and won’t give up. Providing shelters for the homeless will give them opportunities to bring them back on their feet. It will give them the chance to rebuild their life. Every now and then people need other support. It’s always kind to give a helping hand. No one in the world should be homeless and everyone deserves a second chance.

  2. Gab's idea about having more shelters is a great one. There is so much money invested in this country on many things. We sometimes forget about what is really important. Building more shelters will not put an end to homelessness but at least it is a step forward in the right direction. The US should invest in its people and begin to show more care for them. Homeless people are people just like us. The only difference is that they do not have a large number of people who care about them. By us not helping the homeless we are just acting selfishly. We have to make homeless people feel wanted. We have to make them feel like they are a part of society because they really are. These people face more challenges in a single day than we do in our entire lives. I think it is time to help out a little more. We can do this by not only building more shelters, but also having more food drives and fundraisers. Let's not wait till the holiday season to help the homeless. They are homeless all year around which means they need help all year around. Maybe if someone tries to help the homeless, they will try to help themselves and turn their lives around.

  3. Gabriella is right we all need to help to make this world a better place. We are all brothers and sisters in God’s eyes and we all need to keep that in mind. God also says “treat others like you’d like to be treated” if we were in their position we would want someone to help as well. It is important to try to remind the homeless of the options they have to better themselves. With the struggles and emotional problems the homeless have sometimes its easy to forget how to think rationally. So things that may seem obvious to us might not be so obvious to the homeless. Which is were we need to step in and push for a change in their life. Even mentioning a shelter home or soup kitchen could make a big difference. Also mentioning the army or navy and its benefits can give them hope for a better future.

  4. She is right. Everyone needs to help in some sort of way to save the homeless people and end this tragedy. i feel very sad when i pass a homeless person and i feel there is nothing i can do. Those who have created organizations to help the homeless people are great people. Soup kitchens, blood drives, donations, etc. These are the things that really make a difference in society. Everyone one way or another does help a homeless person everyday. Whether it be giving them money, clothes, food, shelter. I wish there was a way to end this, but sadly there is too much homelessness going on in our world today for it to just dissapear overnight. If we all work together and try to help as much as possible all around the world, that will make a huge difference. Hopefully one day this tragedy will be over, and all of the homeless people today will have the life they deserve.
